Rings of Power confirmed in Hall H for SDCC 2026

Fans of The Rings of Power have been waiting on tenterhooks for a while, wondering what, if anything Amazon MGM had planned for San Diego Comic Con this year, and the news dropped in the last few days that we are indeed getting a big appearance. Like seasons 1 and 2, the studio has again booked out the enormous Hall H for a big splash.

Friday July 24, 2026 10:00am – 11:30am PDT
Dystopian Los Angeles and the epic battle for Middle-earth take center stage as Prime Video presents exclusive looks at the upcoming series Blade Runner 2099 and season three of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Cast and executive producers of the series share behind-the-scenes insights and thrilling surprises.

If Rings of Power is sharing the time evenly, that means 45 minutes for whatever they have to share (more on that below). One presumes that “executive producers” means JD Payne and Patrick McKay (my guess is the more ‘managerial’ exec producers won’t be making an appearance), and the main cast will almost surely all be gathering on stage again just like the last two times. And this time, they will surely, surely, be joined by one Jamie Campbell Bower…whose character has to be finally revealed, putting everyone out of their speculative misery. Are you team Celeborn? Or team Glorfindel? All that FoF has been able to convey is that he is a “book elf”, even a leading book elf, and not Thranduil (who is alive in the Second Age in Tolkien’s writings, but still second fiddle to his father Oropher: a character outside the known book rights the show has).

One thing that fans can hope to see is another live musical performance led by the incomparable series composer Bear McCreary. He is in the schedule to do a ‘musical worldbuilding’ session on Thursday, so we know he will be on site the day before. You can see snippets of the performances from 2022 and 2024 in these videos to whet your appetite.

Of course, the big thing everyone is hoping for (except for the JCB character reveal) is a teaser trailer. At Comic Cons 2022 and 2024, the marketing was already further advanced, as the show’s preproduction for the two seasons and release date was earlier on the calendar (the covid-19 pandemic of course messed lots of things up in the production, but it allowed for season 2 to get a lot of writing done earlier). So for the first two seasons we had already seen a teaser (or two!) and SDCC featured a full trailer release for both (as well as additional clips and behind-the-scenes material). Because Season 3’s release date is early November and not late September, the marketing cycle is not quite in the same swing, so it’s likely we won’t see a full trailer this time. Hopefully those present will be treated to a little extra footage, though, of some sort or other.

Of course, SDCC will likely see media outlets having time for more small-scale interviews, perhaps sit-downs with groups of cast members, and while I’m sure the studio will maintain its tight leash on what information can be discussion (some might say too-tight leash), with what we know already, it would be nice to have some production stories or insights into the actors’ and writers’ head space for this next phase of the project. (If you want some nostalgia, here is a giant playlist of interviews from season 1.)

Of course, SDCC is more than just Hall H, and if 2024 is anything to go by, the studio might just also have a splashy event for creators and influencers to meet/mingle with the cast, or showcase costumes/props etc. Sadly we aren’t going to get another appearance of fan-favourite Uruk Glûg (played in-character by Robert Strange), due to his untimely demise at the hands of an enraged Sauron in the last episode of Season 2. But it gives a hint as to the kind of ideas the creative team might re-use.

Since we are so close, Fellowship of Fans is having a live-stream (or had a live stream, depending when you see this) of speculation and discussion about Rings of Power at SDCC this year:

This article was written before the stream happened, so who knows if special information will drop in it? Certainly people will discuss their hopes/expectations/wishes for what might appear in the teaser/trailer and also what other verbal information we will get (Galadriel, where’s your husband? Will we see a Nazgûl? What is the Dark Wizard up to?), or tangible items that might get shown off.

For those that want a refresher, here are the 2022 and 2024 panels in their entirety:

But of course with the obligatory disclaimer that, like all of us, Stephen Colbert can flub a Tolkien character name—he’s only human.
