Thank you, Charles Edwards
It was hard to imagine, at least until two years ago, that we would one day see Celebrimbor, lord of Eregion and highest among the elven craftsmen after Feanor’s death, on a television screen. The Rings of Power gave us a chance to watch this character express himself in all his emotions, feelings and words, and to witness a portrayal of great passion, sensibility and love for the books. The last episode of the second season gave us the chance to get emotional watching him die with great dignity and valor, and the credit for this can only go to the wonderful actor who played him: Charles Edwards.
A precious actor for a very complex character
This article is intended as a warm and heartfelt thanks to Charles, who managed to magnificently capture the essence of a character that was little explored in the professor’s writings. Tolkien, in fact, never described Celebrimbor physically in any of his books, and even the dialogues involving him are very few, which is why being able to bring him to the screen in a coherent and effective way is very complicated. Edwards managed to do this by relying primarily on the pride of a character belonging to one of the greatest lineages among the Noldor, as well as his great ambition to push his arts to the greatest heights.
Celebrimbor was a character who longed to be compared to his grandfather Feanor in the value of his creations, to the point of being blind when Annatar knocked the doors of his kingdom, a crucial part for the best possible portrayal of the character. The actor was able to interpret the drama of the elven lord with mastery, knowledge and, above all, an enormous dose of sensibility, which allowed him to win the hearts of all of us throughout the season. The waters of the Glanduin filled again thanks to our tears, concrete proof that the acting was also sublime throughout all his runtime.

Namarie, Lord Celebrimbor
A big thank you, therefore, to Charles Edwards for his precious interpretation, and for allowing many of us fans to admire such an important character on screen for the first time, making us experience incredible emotions. Don’t look for Celebrimbor in the video games, that’s just a prototype very far from the books, but rather look at the first two seasons of this series and try, in his dialogues, to understand his true essence. Having you in Middle-earth was a great privilege, Charles, a privilege we will never forget.
