The Rings of Power, a new writers room is ready for Season 3

The second season of Rings of Power has just ended, but fans’ eyes are already focused on the next chapter of the show. There are in fact many other important and memorable events of Tolkien’s Second Age yet to show, including the iconic forging of the One Ring and the fall of Numenor. For this reason, Amazon and the showrunners are already working meticulously and carefully on the next season, starting with the creation of a new writers room.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, in fact, the Third Season of the show will have a brand new team of writers alongside JD Payne and Patrick McKay, which will see the return of only Justin Doble, who has been working on the series since the first season. The Rings of Power will therefore say goodbye to the excellent Gennifer Hutchison, Glenise Mullins, Helen Shang, Jason Cahill and Nicholas Adams for the excellent work done in these years, to move towards a new vision, represented by the new faces chosen for this third journey in Middle-earth.

 

Who are the new writers?

Among the new faces coming on board we have Jonathan Wilson, known for his work on the famous The Crown, but there are surprises and more exotic calls. The new team of writers also includes Constance Cheng (The Great), Sarah Anson (The Going, Father Brown), Griff Jones (Bleeding, Kansas), Ava Wong Davies (Industry) and Ben Tagoe (Coronation Street, Lucky Man), a group with very different characteristics compared to the previous one.

These choices lead us to think that the setting of the next season will be very different from the first two, and it is logical to assume that the dialogues will also be handled differently. This new team has in fact participated in works with more “political” nuances and distant from fantasy dynamics, and it will therefore be interesting to see how their qualities will be exploited in a project like this. The political plots of Numenor will probably have much more space in the third season, and there is also the situation of Khazad-dûm that will require a touch of this kind (Durin IV and his brother will have to compete for the throne). We just have to wait for the next developments, waiting for further news, but in the meantime Amazon is preparing to officially announce the renewal of the show by the end of this month.
